Discipline Over Circumstance

High performers don't wait for perfect circumstances.

There's a version of productivity that gets sold online that feels disconnected from reality. It's the perfect desk, the perfect lighting, maybe a small plant somewhere in the frame. I'm guilty of (once upon a time, not anymore) seeking to curate the perfect stage for the sake of productivity.

You would think, once conditions are ideal, performance becomes inevitable, but high performers know something different... The conditions are rarely perfect when you're moving at a certain pace. Sure, sometimes, conditions are ideal, but waiting for ideal conditions is the fastest way to lose momentum.

Business doesn't slow down because travel happens and deadlines don't disappear because life gets inconvenient. Opportunities don't wait for ideal timing.

The people who consistently outperform aren't necessarily the most talented. They're the people who learn how to execute under imperfect conditions.

Productivity is a discipline.

Most people think productivity is about feeling inspired or motivated. But it's not. Inspiration and motivation are inconsistent and unpredictable. Discipline is the variable. Discipline is what keeps standards intact when environment changes.

In the above photo, I was traveling and also happened to be crashing at my line sister's house for a few days with my wife. I didn't have an office setup, but I grabbed a crate and a stool and made it do what it do.

A few habits that travel with me and keep me productive:

  1. No matter where I am in the world, I’m on the morning trading desk when the market opens. And doing it within a community (shameless plug to The WealthPlan Club) creates accountability and familiarity no matter the time zone.

  2. I move my body to mentally arrive. I'm a runner, so wherever I am, I try to get outside and run. There’s something about physically moving through a place that helps me mentally connect to where I actually am. It keeps me grounded and helps me reset to think clearly. I’ve found that if I’m mentally disconnected from my environment, it could potentially impact my ability to focus in unfamiliar environments.

  3. Community matters. I once heard Kanye West say something about how he has friends all over the world so he knows he's good wherever. I've adapted that mindset and have built a solid circle of like-minded friends who are spread out all over the world. There are always guys I can tap in with for a boost when needed. I highly recommend making friends when you go places.

  4. This is probably the most underrated, but I don't drink alcohol, I eat healthy, I don't go out partying, I get a good night's sleep, I stay hydrated, etc. Staying healthy and staying out of trouble is the #1 cheat code to staying productive, in my opinion.

  5. Lastly, when I decided to become an entrepreneur, I decided to be a man of service. Being of service guides everything I do, which keeps me disciplined at all times. I don't take lightly the weight of responsibility and I carry it like a badge of honor. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything, I feel like I'm doing exactly what I've been called to do.

Overall, I try to stay anchored in familiarity while navigating the unknown. To ride the wave but keep my head above water. You have to find those things for you that keep you disciplined. Not motivated, not inspired, but disciplined.

The Studio 24 standard.

The entrepreneurs we support are serious builders and they need partners they can rely on under any and all circumstances, not only when circumstances are easy, but especially when they're not.

Over time, we stopped just building a client roster and started building a community of people obsessed with excellence.

We've never relied on ads, aggressive funnels, or over-engineered marketing campaigns to grow Studio 24. Our business has grown entirely through relationships. A players connecting other A players, because high performance entrepreneurs tend to recognize the same standards in the people they choose to build with.

In the long run, the best work doesn't comes from perfect conditions, it comes from a commitment to delivering at the highest levels.
